Simplifying the Business Behind Your Business

Piecing a quilt is the second most important part of quilting, but first…FABRIC!

Welcome to Material Thingz, a consulting site for small businesses!

Why the quilting theme? Material Thingz began as a brick-and-mortar store back in the early 2000s in a small town in Arkansas. We first opened as a creative outlet for my wonderful momma. She was a quilter, sewer, designer, and performed master alterations. Her dream to open a fabric shop also became my dream for her. I was and am still honored to be a part of that dream by opening Material Thingz Fabrics.

I do sew and quilt, but my magic is in business operations. It was a good fit for us both. As time went on, we were forced to close due to mom’s illness. My time was limited by also running another full-time business (a consulting/training business). We were forced to make the difficult decision to close our brick-and-mortar store. It was a sad time, but mom continued to quilt at home until she was 90. I kept the business going by opening an on-line shop.

Evolution of a Business Model

After retiring from my other business interest, I opened Material Thingz Fabrics again. My new brick-and-mortar location was fun. I kept it open until Covid hit. I again had to make the difficult decision to close and operate on-line only.

Running a business sometimes takes us where we didn’t know we would go–this is the case of Material Thingz. I am now sharing my tried-and-true business knowledge with all small business owners running all types of businesses. Whether the business is online or brick-and-mortar, the same principles apply. It is my pleasure to assist business owners as a mentor, coach, and trainer.
